Foundations of Wellbeing Group Course

Part nutrition & lifestyle education and part support group, this 6 week course overviews the most important aspects of physical wellbeing. Each week we will learn about 1-2 wellness topics and discuss doable steps for integrating them into our daily lives in a realistic way. This class is a safe space that encourages self-reflection, sharing, and learning from one another as we challenge our limiting mindsets and beliefs. Designed to fill you up rather than add more to your plate, there will be no required work outside of class. All you need is 90 minutes a week to start making yourself and your wellbeing a priority.

  • In our first week together we will dive right in to what is arguably the most important factor of wellbeing - our mindset. Practicing self-acceptance, self-compassion, and allowing ourselves to do things imperfectly are all cornerstones to creating lasting change and are themes that will run throughout the course. We will then jump into a brief introduction to the nervous system and how it works to keep us happy, healthy, and safe.

  • We all experience stress, but do we know when our bodies are in a chronic stress state? Building on our introduction to the nervous system, we’ll learn about why stress management is such a crucial aspect of our wellbeing. We will also talk about the vital importance of sleep, something that is often undersold in our fast-paced culture, and how to get a better night’s rest.

  • The fitness industry has co-opted exercise to be mostly all about modifying how we look, but in our third week we will discuss the difference between movement and exercise and all about why enjoying consistent movement throughout the day is more important than crushing it at the gym. We will also talk about how and why to stay hydrated, with a short bonus section on oral health.

  • While our first three weeks will primarily focus on lifestyle, our last three weeks will cover different aspects of nutrition. In this module we will learn what optimal digestion looks like, what can go wrong, and how the way we eat is just as important as what we eat. We will also spend some time chatting about eating intuitively and fostering a healthy relationship with food.

  • Chronic fatigue, brain fog, feeling sleepy after meals, needing caffeine to wake up, cravings, poor sleep… You don’t have to have diabetes to struggle with blood sugar issues. In fact, a vast amount of Americans deal with some level of blood sugar dysregulation. In this module we will learn about the endocrine (hormonal) system and its role in blood sugar regulation, including what can go wrong and how best to support it through our food and lifestyle choices.

  • Is gluten bad for you? What the heck are GMOs? Do I have to give up potato chips? (Spoiler alert: probably not.) In our final week, we will round out what we’ve learned so far about food & nutrients and address some common misinformation. We’ll talk about protein needs, supplements, how to read food labels, why you don’t need to do a detox, and more. We will also briefly talk about the impact of what surrounds us and how to choose safer cookware, cleaning, and personal care products.
